A model that breaks barriers between school, health and social services

The Aspace Catalunya Special Education School, finalist in the Premis Ensenyament for a model that transforms the lives of children and their families

The Aspace Catalunya Special Education School has been selected as a finalist in the Education Awards of the Cercle d'Economia Foundation. A recognition that goes beyond a specific project and places a key issue at the center, how to guarantee comprehensive, continuous care that is truly focused on people with highly complex needs.

This recognition highlights the model that the Aspace Catalunya Foundation promotes strategically, a proposal that integrates education, health and social services to respond to children with neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities, and to their families.

The center, which operates as a school and day hospital, has been selected as one of the seven finalists among numerous applications from all over Catalonia. The final decision of the contest will be announced on May 13th.

A system designed to respond to complexity, not to fragment it

Children with highly complex needs often require educational support, healthcare and social intervention simultaneously. Traditionally, these services operate in a disconnected manner, generating fragmentation and shifting the responsibility for coordinating them to families.

The Aspace Catalunya model is based on a clear premise, complexity cannot be divided, and neither can people.

For that, The day school-hospital brings together multi-professional teams that work in an integrated manner in the same environment.Teachers, healthcare professionals and social teams share information, goals and strategies to offer comprehensive and personalized care.

This way of working not only improves coordination between services, but also reduces the burden on families, avoids duplication and ensures real continuity of care.

Real impact that changes people's lives

This This model has a direct and tangible impact on the lives of children and their families.

Allows one more coherent and adapted care to each case, improves the quality of life of children, facilitates more meaningful learning processes and guarantees more effective interventions. At the same time, families stop navigating between various services and find a single reference space, with a global and coordinated view.

In short, we move from a fragmented system to a person-centered care experience that provides comprehensive support over time.

From model to practice

As part of the evaluation process, The technical jury of the awards visited the center's facilities to learn first-hand how the model works.

During the visit it was possible to observe how this integration takes place on a daily basis, real coordination between professionals, shared planning and the organization of intervention spaces.

Beyond the theoretical approach, What is valued is the model's capacity to generate real changes in people's lives., especially in highly complex contexts.

Aspace Catalunya, promoting a paradigm shift

The presence of Aspace Catalunya among the finalists of the Education Awards not only recognizes good practice, but rather it demonstrates the entity's leadership in the transformation of care models.

The Aspace Catalunya Foundation not only applies a different model, but also It contributes to redefining how educational, health and social systems should respond to complex realities. Their approach points towards a paradigm shift: moving from compartmentalized services to integrated, person-centered, impact-oriented models.

More than an award, a model for the future

The final decision will be known on May 13th., but the fact of having reached the final phase already consolidates this model as a benchmark experience in the field of comprehensive care.

In a context of growing social and healthcare complexity, Aspace Catalunya's strategic model shows a clear path, putting people at the center, working in a coordinated manner and building responses that integrate all dimensions of life.

A model that not only responds to the present, but also actively contributes to the transformation of the system towards a more coherent, more humane and more efficient future.
