The Aspace Catalunya Foundation publishes in Frontiers in Neurology the research protocol on radial shock wave therapy for spasticity in cerebral palsy

Barcelona, June 28, 2024 – The Aspace Catalunya Foundation has taken a significant step in the field of neurology with the publication of the research protocol of the study entitled "Radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy for the management of spasticity in cerebral palsy: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial" to the prestigious magazine Frontiers in Neurology. This journal is the second most cited worldwide in the field of clinical neurology, highlighting the relevance of the publication.

The Foundation has been pioneer in the application of radial shock waves for the treatment of spasticity in people with cerebral palsy. In 2011, they conducted the world's first randomized controlled clinical trial applying this therapy to patients with cerebral palsy. Since 2014, this treatment has been part of its portfolio of services, with a annual increase in the number of patients treated and a high degree of satisfaction reported.

The new study, framed within the doctoral program of the Aspace Catalunya physiotherapist Miriam Tur, aims to investigate the effect of radial shock wave therapy in relation to the time interval between sessions of a full treatment. It seeks to determine whether the benefits of the therapy can be prolonged by maintaining the same number of sessions. In 72 patients participated in this study, and the conclusions are currently being drawn up based on the results obtained.

The fact that Frontiers in Neurology has shown interest in the line of research of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation and has published its study protocol, suggests a possible interest in publishing the final results. This would have a significant impact for the community of people with cerebral palsy and for the Foundation, positioning it as a leader in subject matter expertise and establishing it as the institution with the most publications on radial shock wave therapy for the treatment of spasticity in people with cerebral palsy.

This post doesn't just stand out the commitment of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation to research and progress in the treatment of cerebral palsy, but also opens new perspectives for future studies and clinical applications of this innovative therapy.
