Lourdes Cuní is now 53 years old. She is one of the most veteran users of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation. Since he arrived at the organization, one of his main demands has been the adaptation of communication systems in order to efficiently relate to his environment.
In this sense, the use of communication panels for people with cerebral palsy has always been a challenge that, from the Aspace Catalunya Foundation, has been tackled multidisciplinary. In order to provide a satisfactory response adapted to the needs of our users, also counting on their collaboration whenever this has been possible.
Lourdes already participated in the creation of her first panel. A system of symbols BLISS which was drawn up manually, depending on the specific needs of the patient, using different templates.
The BLISS system, although it proved practical for a while, presented a difficulty: it was not based on the alphabet. This is how he made the leap to a syllabic paper panel which, despite some modifications, is what he still uses today.
But what about the arrival of new technologies?
As we have already said, Lourdes currently still uses the syllabic paper panel. Even so, with the arrival of new technologies - which have changed the way we communicate - a new need has arisen.
He wants to relate virtually and make use of mobile applications that allow him to stay in touch with anyone. And this has been achieved through an adapted Tablet.
Using TheGrid syllabic templates, and with a keyboard on the Tablet screen, you can access the different applications.
This touch screen is controlled by a unicorn. A helmet with a metal pointer - since it has good mobility on the head - that allows you to use the tablet.

50 years of breaking barriers: communication and technological innovation walk together.
This touch screen is controlled by a unicorn. A helmet with a metallic pointer - because it has good mobility in its head that allows you to use the tablet.
