SEPAR invites us to participate in the 28th Meeting on the treatment of Respiratory Physiotherapy in Cerebral Palsy.

The Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery SEPAR invites us to participate in the 28th Meeting on the treatment of Respiratory Physiotherapy in Cerebral Palsy.

Last Friday, February 6, Ms. Maider Pereda López, physiotherapist and referent of the Physiotherapy area of the Rehabilitation Service of Aspace, participated in the 28th winter meeting organized by SEPAR, in the area of respiratory physiotherapy that was carried out in Malaga.

SEPAR is the Scientific Society dedicated to respiratory health in Spain and which includes different health professionals: pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, nurses and respiratory physiotherapists.
From the respiratory physiotherapy area of SEPAR, we were invited to participate in a specialized round table with patients with Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.

Ms. Maider Pereda, shared a round table with Mrs. Lupe de Santos, ASSIDO Murcia physiotherapist, with Mireia Pardàs, respiratory physiotherapist and member of SEPAR, as moderator.

It was a very interesting round table in which we were able to explain the treatment that is being carried out at the Rehabilitation Service of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation, and we were able to share our experience and journey in the field. Let's delve into the main causes that promote breathing difficulties in people with cerebral palsy. We were also able to expose the main treatment techniques we use: nebulization, pharmacological inhalation therapy, the vest, assisted autogenous drainage (DAA), prolonged slow aspiration (Elpr), postural changes, mobilization of the upper extremities, assisted coughing (cough Assist), among others.

We enjoyed the open question period and it was very enriching to contribute from different perspectives our experience in the adaptation of respiratory physiotherapy techniques in patients with severe neurological impairment.

Respiratory difficulties are one of the main causes of mortality in our population (cerebral palsy), and it is directly related to the quality of life of our users, and therefore, it is a very important part of our work as physiotherapists.

The scientific community brings us news and recommendations to be able to apply to our daily practice.

This great opportunity serves us to continue researching and improving as a specialized service, and brings us closer to creating alliances with other professionals in the health sector and the scientific community with a lot of experience in the field.
