This October 18, 2019, part of the ASPACE medical team, Dr. Núria Esqué (psychiatrist), Dr. Tamara Biedermann (rehabilitator), Dr. Stefano Petrella and Dr. Lydia Vargas (neuropediatrists), we participated in the IV Update Day: Rehabilitation, of the ASPACE Castilla y León Federation, which took place in Valladolid, city of art, history and excellent gastronomy .
It was an intense 10-hour day, which was organized by the "Federación ASPACE Castilla y León" and the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valladolid, represented by the multidisciplinary ortho-neuropaediatrics team.
The program was divided into 4 blocks: detection, risk factors and early assessment, treatments and workshops. We were able to appreciate the way of being and doing of a multidisciplinary team that showed its enthusiasm for the work.
The medical team and the different therapists made a lot of effort to stick to the hours so that we could make the most of the program.
From a review of normality to pathology in the neonatal stage, assessments and early detections, assessing sensory integration, the influence of genetics and the environment, going through different stages of life and types of therapies, thinking about the future (new technologies), and the vision of the necessary accompanying support for the palliative care unit.
We took home many positive messages from those we highlight, that the clinic remains the "golden standard" test in our work, that you can learn from both successes and mistakes, that only knowledge leads us to anticipation and therefore to find the best solution for the problems in cerebral palsy and that through emotion (play), we generate alertness and alertness generates learning. In short, that good work is based on observation, active listening and teamwork.
We should be grateful to be able to do this continuous training, and thank other teams for teaching us their ways of doing things. The experience has been very positive with our four looks, they were able to create links with people from other communities in our areas and the administration. As well as making us stronger as an interdisciplinary team, taking advantage of the experience and expertise of Dra. Esqué and the curiosity and energy of the rest of the colleagues.
