Inclusive leisure, a tool for well-being and family support

The “Temps” project of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation promotes activities adapted for people with multiple disabilities and offers respite spaces to families caring for people in our occupational centers.

For many people with multiple disabilities, access to leisure activities remains an opportunity limited by physical, social and cultural barriers. This reality not only restricts their community participation, but also directly impacts the well-being of caring families, who often assume continuous and very demanding care.

To respond to this need, the Aspace Catalunya Foundation promotes the project “Time: Leisure and rest opportunities”, an initiative that offers adapted activities, inclusive leisure spaces and respite stays for adults with complex neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. The project has the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council and Barcelona City Council.

A response to an often invisible social need

The “Temps” project is part of the mission of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation to offer highly specialized comprehensive care throughout the life of people with complex neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities, as well as to support their families.

In this context, the program has been consolidated as a necessary response to a reality that has been made invisible, the right to leisure, rest and social participation of people with great support needs and their family environment.

Adapted activities throughout the year

The initiative runs throughout the year and includes adapted cultural and recreational outings, specialized summer camps and weekend activities. All of these proposals are designed to promote the emotional well-being, socialization and active participation of participants.

The activities are designed in a personalized way, taking into account the capabilities, preferences and needs of each person, and have the support of professionals and specialized monitors. In addition, the project is developed in collaboration with entities in the leisure sector, such as the Pere Tarrés Foundation, which provide experience and resources in the field of education and inclusive dynamization.

Respite and support for families

The program is mainly aimed at users of the Foundation's social services, many of whom depend on elderly caregivers who need support and accompaniment.

For this reason, the project also incorporates a family respite service, designed to reduce the physical and emotional burden on caregivers and offer them time to rest. This dimension of the program is particularly relevant, because it contributes to sustaining care and improving the quality of life of both the participants and their families.

Leisure as a right and as a driver of inclusion

“Temps” defends leisure as a fundamental right and as a key tool for personal development, quality of life and social inclusion. From this perspective, leisure is not understood as a complement, but as an essential part of person-centered care.

The impact of the project is reflected in different areas: in the short term, it generates an improvement in the emotional well-being of families; in the medium term, it promotes healthier family relationships and greater social participation; and, in the long term, it contributes to building a more inclusive, supportive and committed community with diversity.

Commitment to a fairer and more accessible society

With the "Temps" project, the Aspace Catalunya Foundation reaffirms its commitment to a more just and inclusive society, where rest, emotional support and access to leisure are also part of the rights of people with multiple disabilities and their families.

This is a consolidated initiative that puts people at the center, strengthens family and community ties and makes visible the need to continue moving towards a society that is more accessible to everyone.
