Aspace high school students create songs with artificial intelligence for the little ones

An inclusive project turns music and technology into a shared experience between Aspace students and Early Childhood Education children.
During a semester, the students of group F of Aspace Catalunya have designed within the classroom project  “We create music for the little ones”, a proposal that integrates artificial intelligence, musical creation and artistic expression.
The objective has been twofold: bring them closer to artificial intelligence in an understandable way and, at the same time, give them the opportunity to create songs with a real audience in mind: children in Early Childhood Education.
The project has been developed in weekly two-hour sessions, with an experiential approach and fully adapted to the needs of people with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities, a highly complex group that requires specific support to learn and express themselves.
Beyond technology, the project has been a way of value the voice, ideas and creativity of students.
Discover what AI is… and see what they can do with it
In a first phase, the students discovered What is artificial intelligence? and how it is already part of their day to day: in the music they listen to, the screens they use or the tools that accompany them in the classroom.
With visual materials, hands-on activities, and auditory dynamics, they learned to differentiate between music created by people and music generated with AI. This step was key for them to be able to understand technology not as something distant, but as a tool that they could make their own.
Then, they started working with Suno, a platform that allows you to create songs automatically. With support from teachers, visual aids and technical adaptations, the boys and girls explored how music changes when they modify styles, voices or rhythms. Each test was a discovery… and also a reason for conversation and opinion.
Letters tailored to the youngest children
The lyrics of the songs were created collectively, combining ChatGPT with pictographic materials and augmentative communication systems.
The topics —animals, emotions, games, the seasons of the year…— were chosen always thinking about who would listen to them: the children of Early Childhood EducationThis helped the Aspace students to put themselves in the shoes of the little ones: “what would they like?”, “what would they understand better?”, “what could make them smile?”.
From these lyrics, they generated their own musical pieces with Suno, defining the style, melody and duration. After several listenings, comments and adjustments, they obtained unique compositions, which they feel as their own.
When music is also seen: videos created with AI
In a second phase, the project incorporated Pixverse, an AI tool specializing in video creation.
Based on the songs generated, the students designed small music videos that combine audio and image, expanding the possibilities of expression, understanding and enjoyment. For many people with high complexity, being able to see what is being heard is an important aid in following the thread of the story.
The project culminated with a presentation to Early Childhood Education students, using a digital whiteboard, tablets and adapted buttons. It was a particularly meaningful moment: the boys and girls from Aspace were able to share their work with the audience for which they created it and see the children's reactions up close: surprise, laughter, movements to the rhythm of the music...
Project-Based Learning and links between students
“We create music for the little ones” has been developed based on the model ofProject-Based Learning (PBL), which emphasizes meaningful experiences, connected to real life and with a clear end product.
The methodology has been inclusive and experiential, focused on:
  • active participation and cooperative work,
  • the inclusive use of technology as a support and not as a barrier,
  • the emotional and communicative expression of each student, with the support they need.
The evaluation was carried out in a way formative and continuous, valuing above all the involvement, initiative, the ability to make decisions and individual progress. More than the technical perfection of the songs or videos, it counted the path traveled and what each person was able to contribute.
Technology as an opportunity, not a limit
The project has shown that artificial intelligence, used with pedagogical criteria and an inclusive perspective, can enhance communication, creativity and participation of people with neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities.
For the students of Aspace Catalunya, “We create music for the little ones” has been:
  • A way of discover new ways of creating and expressing oneself,
  • an experience for make your creative talent visible,
  • and an opportunity for establish educational and emotional bonds with the children of Early Childhood Education.
Overall, the initiative places music, technology and artificial intelligence as key tools for educational and social inclusion, and reinforces Aspace Catalunya's commitment to innovative education, focused on people and their capabilities.
