El Montjuïc Comprehensive Center (CIM) hosted a classical music concert by the quintet SenArts aimed at users of the Montjuïc Residence and Day Center of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation. The activity is part of the international project Museum, powered by Approach Culture i theHigher School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC), with the aim of bringing live music to environments where access to cultural offerings is often limited.
Beyond the artistic experience, the concert highlighted the social value of bringing culture closer to people with complex neurodevelopmental disorder, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilitiesLive music, for many of them, is a privileged way of participation, activates sensory perception, favors the emotional regulation and can facilitate ways of nonverbal communication when oral language is not the main tool of expression. In a safe and close environment, musical stimuli are transformed into opportunities for well-being and connection.
During the performance, they were seen bodily responses, sustained gazes, gestures of attention and expressions of emotion that reinforce how music can create a shared space where “things happen”: moments of calm, curiosity, joy and also bonding with the people around them. These types of experiences contribute to reduce isolation, to promote the active presence and generate positive memories, especially relevant in profiles with great support needs.
The initiative also led to a community meeting between residents, professionals and musicians, highlighting a culture that is not only consumed, but also lived and built together. The project is coordinated by Montse Urpi and with the involvement of Núria Martinez i Alexia Villadolid, students of the Production and Management specialty at ESMUC, responsible for the production of this edition's concerts.
With actions like this, the Aspace Catalunya Foundation reinforces its commitment to a culture accessible and inclusive, understood as a right and as a tool capable of generating real social impact, more well-being, more participation and more opportunities so that all people, without exception, can get excited and be part of cultural life.
