World Day for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

On World Day for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse, la Aspace Catalonia Foundation calls for the awareness and responsibility of professionals who attend to the child population, placing particular emphasis on the early detection of sexual abuse.

With the appointment by Alphonse Bertillon, 19th century criminologist, "we only see what we observe, and we only observe what is in our minds" as a starting point in the organization we highlight the importance of considering the possibility of sexual abuse as part of the diagnosis in early childhood. This implies a collective effort in the professional and personal sphere to achieve greater awareness and training in this area.

Its commitment to this issue is reflected in the recognition of the need to raise the awareness and preparedness of the entire team of the Child Development and Early Care Center (CDIAP) of Aspace Catalunya. Through this training and awareness, we aspire to arrive at a more agile and accurate detection of possible cases of child sexual abuse.

This mission takes on a critical dimension in light of the worrying figures in Catalonia, where more than half of the victims of sexual violence are under the age of 20, according to the data of the Mossos d'Esquadra. Despite this disturbing reality, it is important to understand that these figures only reflect part of the problem, since there are many cases that remain invisible.

From the Fundació Aspace Catalunya reaffirms our commitment to the protection of children, working to create a safe environment and providing resources and training for the early detection and comprehensive treatment of cases of child sexual abuse.
