Today, December 3rd, we celebrate the International Day of Disability.

Internationally, interest in disability began in 1981, the first year declared as the International Year of Persons with Disabilities. Subsequently, the decade 1983-1992 was established as the United Nations Decade for Persons with Disabilities. National governments assumed this ten-year period as the deadline to guarantee equal opportunities in the education and labor sectors.

At the end of this decade in 1992, the United Nations instituted the annual celebration, on December 3, of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

This day aims to sensitize public opinion on issues related to disability and promote awareness of the benefits that would be generated by the integration of people with disabilities in all aspects of political, social and economic life and cultural
