When innovation is put at the service of neurorehabilitation
For many people with neurodevelopmental pathologies, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities, Neurorehabilitation is not just a medical process, but a gateway to a more autonomous and fulfilling life. However, accessing specialized, effective and motivating neurorehabilitation remains a challenge for many families.
With the desire to transform this landscape, the Aspace Catalonia Foundation has promoted the Therapeutic Gym, an innovative space that integrates robotics and artificial intelligence to enhance the rehabilitation process. This pioneering project personalize therapy according to individual needs of each user, increasing their motivation and improving therapeutic results.
Thanks to the support of the “La Caixa” Foundation, through the Calls for Social Projects Catalonia 2023, this project has been able to make a qualitative leap with the acquisition of leading-edge technology that opens up new possibilities for recovery and well-being of people with neurological disabilities.
Therapeutic exercise as a tool for change
El Therapeutic Gym it is not just a space to exercise, but a commitment to neurorehabilitation scientifically backed which combines the use of advanced technology with a human and personalized approach.
Clinical and therapeutic objectives
- Improve mobility and muscle strength → Guided exercises help to recover motor control, which is essential for daily activities.
- Reduce fatigue and improve physical endurance → Assisted therapy promotes the optimization of effort and the improvement of muscle tone.
- Enhance personal autonomy → Better body control allows users be more independent in their daily routines.
- Promote mental and emotional health → Regulated physical activity decreases anxiety and depression and promotes psychological well-being.
The team of professionals at the Aspace Catalunya Foundation accompanies each person in this process, adapting the sessions to ensure that the experience is motivating and effective.
A project driven by technology and innovation
The acquisition of the Skillrun by Technogym, thanks to the collaboration with the “La Caixa” Foundation, marks a before and after in this neurorehabilitation model. This machine is not just a treadmill, but an advanced tool that:
- It allows strength and cardiovascular capacity training in people with neurological disabilities.
- It includes routines explained on video and personalized exercises, adapted to each patient.
- Records data in real time to monitor progress and adjust neurorehabilitation plans.
This technology makes neurorehabilitation not only more efficient, but also more attractive and exciting for users, who see their progress in a tangible and immediate way.
The role of families in neurorehabilitation
Neurorehabilitation does not begin or end within the facilities of the Therapeutic Gym. Families play a fundamental role in the success of this process. For this reason, the project provides for:
Workshops and training for caregivers → Give them tools to integrate adapted physical activity into their daily lives.
Emotional support → Meeting spaces for families to share experiences and feel supported on this path.
Individualized exercise plans to do at home → Promoting continuity of work beyond the guided sessions.
This involvement ensures that therapeutic advances are consolidated and translated into real improvements in the day-to-day lives of users.
A replicable model for a more inclusive future
Beyond its immediate impact, the Therapeutic Gym vol making a difference in the neurorehabilitation modelThrough this project, the Aspace Catalunya Foundation aspires to demonstrate that Technology applied to neurorehabilitation can radically improve the quality of life of people with neurological disabilities and, at the same time, promote that more training and neurorehabilitation spaces are accessible for this group.
This model could serve as a reference for other centers and institutions, driving a change in the way neurorehabilitation and inclusive sport are understood.
A shared commitment: the impact of the collaboration with the “La Caixa” Foundation
Projects like this are possible thanks to the involvement of entities such as “La Caixa” Foundation, which is committed to initiatives with real social impact. Its contribution has allowed equip the Therapeutic Gym with state-of-the-art technology, but, above all, it has helped to offer a new opportunity for many people that, without this type of resources, they would have much more difficulty accessing quality neurorehabilitation.
With this project, the Aspace Catalunya Foundation reaffirms its commitment to continue innovating and working for a a future where all people, regardless of their neurological condition, have the same opportunities to develop and live fully.
