The users of the sports residence for everyone have carried out an exchange with the high school students of the Emperador Carles Institute.
As every Thursday, our residence users came down to play sports in the pavilion, but this time they had a visitor. We had high school students from the Emperador Carles Institute (from the Sants neighborhood) with us, who came to see us and experience how the sports activity is developed for everyone with them. In this four-month period, the main thread of the activity is that of "Superheroes d'Aspace contra Villans": the participants must manage to overcome a series of motor challenges proposed by the technicians Miquel and Borja, (who are the ''Villains'' , and who try by all means to destroy different parts or centers of Aspace). If the participants overcome these challenges they can get powers, special outfits and other extras in order to save their companions. In this case they had a lot of help, as the boys and girls of the high school participated actively, trying to overcome the cooperative challenges together.
First of all, to warm up, we played the pack game, in which everyone moved around the pavilion freely...walking, running, jumping...while music was playing. Suddenly, the music stopped and groups of 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 people had to be formed, each time in a different way, and in each group one and another mixed in. Once finished, we took advantage of the 3 groups of 14 people that had been set up, so that they did, in three shifts, a tour of the Cim's facilities, seeing the classrooms, the workshops, the dining room, the swimming pool... The whole tour is guided by some residence users, who have done the Tour with them.
The sports activity has started with a first challenge: we have put some videos where colleagues from Aspace Badalona were seen asking for help, because the Villains "el Guerrero de las Astillas" and "Graffitero Lanzabolas" had kidnapped a few colleagues. They asked them for help and also explained the proposed challenge in order to be released: The challenge to overcome was "the shredder": they had to pass under a rotating rope, 25 times in less than 5 minutes, in groups of 5 people , held together and always with one or two Aspace users. But it wasn't going to be easy... and the challenge was not overcome... 26 hits happened but 2 were null and void as they weren't mixed together, or it wasn't a group of 5. They were still asleep... But we gave them a dress of superheroes to each of them.
Now it was time to do the second challenge: in the next video the Villains stole Badalona's food, they had no food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They had to manage to collect the maximum amount of food distributed throughout the pavilion (balls, cones) in less than 5 minutes, in groups of 4 people. The users had to catch the cones and basket them in the baskets placed on the shoulder board and the high school students the balls. Now yes!, now they did overcome the challenge and were able to take lives from the Villains and get extra power.
In the third and final challenge, they had to manage to place 3 bocce balls inside 8 different hoops in less than 8 minutes. They all spread out together, some helping with the gutter, others collecting balls, others throwing the balls and some advising their colleagues. If they did, they would manage to free the colleagues from Badalona!!!. Well, they did it in record time!!! Less than 8 minutes and all the balls were in the hoops; therefore, they successfully overcame it. They saved life from the Villans... but not all of it, even though they were below minimums... This meant that they DID NOT SAVE the center of Badalona!!! And the Villains survive for now...
It was time to see what had happened to the colleagues of Aspace Badalona and what better than to watch the final video: you could see the whole center destroyed, the colleagues on the floor, chairs and tables in disarray... YES, THE VILLAINS DID SOMETHING SEVES...!!! Will the users manage to save the center of Poblenou...next week?
As a closing act, we made a circle in the middle of the pavilion so that they could talk/comment or say aspects of the activity carried out. The boys and girls of the high school gave their opinion on the activity, and it was great; but the best of all were the great words they had towards our users: impressed by their desire to do sport, the freedom it gave them, and the great experience they had gained by sharing such a day with them.
An aspect worth noting is the great feeling that was created between them, as there were very nice situations of communication and cooperation, given through the challenges and activities.
Afterwards, the boys and girls of the residence also had words of thanks towards them and gave them, as a gift, a bookmark made entirely by them. The boys and girls from the high school brought two balls to massage, which we will launch the next day.
They also made us a list with the name and email of those who, after the experience, would like to collaborate with us as volunteers in the future. We will respond to all of them through the teaching staff.
We thank the institute for coming and sharing with us a day of great challenges, emotions and friendships!!
