The day played a trick on us, as rain and cold combined. 14 3rd year ESO students from the Emperador Carles Institute showed up on time to volunteer. They had already gone up to the CIM the previous Wednesday, where they met the users they would accompany, they did a joint activity to establish an initial relationship and know how they should support the person they would go with; and they also tried to accompany each other in wheelchairs and understand by experience how to do it well and what things should not be done. This activity by the institute is part of the center's activities linked to community service (in accordance with article 16 of Decree 187/2015, of August 25, according to which community service is an educational action aimed at developing the social and civic competence of students. It is developed in the curricular framework through the learning and service methodology. It responds to the idea that education is a tool for social improvement, aimed at forming complete beings, with an intellectual as well as a human and moral dimension).
At the moment when the CIM runners were going down towards the Sants neighborhood, the rain got heavier and it was the reason that it was decided not to do the activity, anticipating that the rain would continue, as it did.
The volunteers, once notified, wanted to help the other people who appeared in the special cross-country race, and covered them with their presence throughout the 800m race.
They instructed us to let them know that they want to continue these experiences.
