Inclusion, creativity and community in the heart of the neighborhood
El Poblenou Occupational Center of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation has been present at the Poblenou Festival, one of the most emblematic events in the district and in Barcelona. On September 8, 9 and 10, users of the Poblenou Occupational Therapy Center took to the streets to share the fruits of their labor and demonstrate that creativity has no limits.
A stall with much more than products
The Foundation set up a charity stall where hand-decorated fans and bread bags could be purchased. Each of these objects, made throughout the course, is the result of hours of dedication, effort and talent. They are not just crafts, but an expression of autonomy, artistic ability and inclusion.
This year, a flyer was also created with the slogan “CAPABILITIES THAT INSPIRATE”, which invites the community to look beyond limitations and recognize everything that people with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities can contribute to society.
A party that breaks barriers
For the Aspace Catalonia Foundation, participating in neighborhood festivals is much more than being part of the program: it is an opportunity to connect with the community, make visible the capabilities of people with functional diversity and strengthen ties with the environment.
"Behind each piece there is a process full of learning, perseverance and commitment. Participating in the festivities is our way of showing this and contributing to building a more inclusive and welcoming community for everyone," they explain from the center.
Neighborhood-based inclusion
The presence of the Occupational Center at the Poblenou Festival is a gesture that unites celebration and protest: the celebration of diversity and the protest for the right of all people to have an active and recognized space within community life.
With initiatives like this, the Aspace Catalunya Foundation demonstrates that, beyond the difficulties, people with functional diversity have a lot to contribute: creativity, sensitivity and the ability to transform the way we understand inclusion.
