A group of users of the Autonomy Workshop of the Badalona Occupational Center, of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation, is developing an ecology and environmental project with a clear objective, raise awareness about the importance of recycling and denounce the impact that plastic waste has on the seabed.
The initiative, promoted by Center's Ecology and Environment Group, will culminate in the creation of a mural that will visually represent the consequences of plastic pollution in marine ecosystems. To create it, the participants have carried out a prior documentation process through the viewing of documentaries and the consultation of different sources of information, working on content related to sustainability, environmental responsibility and respect for the planet.
Water pollution is, to a large extent, a direct consequence of human activity. Although nature has its own purification mechanisms, the amount of waste dumped into the seas and oceans, many of which are non-biodegradable, exceeds the natural capacity for regeneration. These materials can remain in the marine environment for decades, seriously affecting fauna, ecosystems and, indirectly, human health.
Beyond environmental awareness, this type of activity has a particularly relevant value for people with neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. Through meaningful projects connected to social reality, it promotes active participation, teamwork, decision-making and expression of opinions. It is about of experiences that reinforce autonomy, self-esteem and the feeling of contribution to the community, promoting active and committed citizenship.
The project also includes the organization of a talk aimed at colleagues and professionals from the center to share the learnings acquired and promote more sustainable habits in everyday life. In this way, Users not only receive content, but also become awareness-raising agents within their own environment.
The Aspace Catalonia Foundation is working on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), understood as a real commitment to people and the environment. Taking care of the planet is a collective responsibility, and promoting environmental values is part of the entity's comprehensive care model. Through initiatives like this, the idea is reinforced that every small gesture counts and that, with concrete actions, it is possible to generate a positive impact in both the social and environmental spheres.
