European Speech Therapy Day is celebrated on March 6th, a day dedicated to highlighting the importance of communication and the fundamental role of speech therapists in the linguistic and communicative development of people. This year, the motto chosen is “Enriching the linguistic environment of children”, focusing on the importance of creating an environment rich in language to promote the development of the communication skills of the youngest.
At the Aspace Catalunya Foundation, we want to take advantage of this date to raise awareness about the need to promote stimulating environments adapted to the individual needs of each childThe speech therapists at the Day Hospital and School work daily to facilitate communication through different strategies, such as the use of augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC), the incorporation of visual and technological resources, and close collaboration with families and education professionals.
To enrich the linguistic environment of children, It is essential to create spaces and communicative situations in everyday life. For this reason, we work with adapted sensory stories, we enable spaces to be more accessible with pictograms, and we implement the use of SAAC in daily routines. These actions are key to guaranteeing a more inclusive communicative environment and facilitating the linguistic development of our students. An appropriate speech therapy intervention can make a significant difference in their communicative and social growth.
With this initiative, We reaffirm our commitment to inclusive communication and the right of all children to express themselves and be understood. Let's celebrate European Speech Therapy Day together and continue working for a more accessible and communicative world for everyone!
And to commemorate this special day for speech therapists, The students of the Blanquerna Speech Therapy Degree visited Aspace Catalunya to learn firsthand about all the work that speech therapists do at our Foundation. This experience is essential to enrich their training, as it allows them to see the practical application of their knowledge and learn from professionals who work directly with people. Sharing these experiences with future speech therapists promotes their professional growth and prepares them to face the challenges of their future career.
