The Aspace Catalunya Foundation and the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital join forces to improve care for people with neurodevelopmental diseases, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities
This strategic alliance will allow the improvement of the approach to people with cerebral palsy, neurodevelopmental pathologies and multiple disabilities. The Aspace Catalunya Foundation and the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital sign a collaboration agreement to improve the comprehensive care and well-being of people with neurological development diseases, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities; as well as care and support for their families.
Dr. Albert Salazar, manager of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, has shown his enthusiasm and commitment to this alliance, which represents a significant advance in improving the quality of life of patients with neurodevelopmental diseases and their families .
For her part, Ms. Elena Puigdevall, general director of the Aspace Catalunya Foundation, emphasizes that working together with a reference hospital such as the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital allows great benefits for patients and their families, as well as advances in research and knowledge of cerebral palsy. At the same time, Puigdevall emphasizes that coordination with specialized hospital units is key to improving the approach to shared cases between different hospital specialists and Aspace's supraterritorial specialized ambulatory care services.
People with cerebral palsy and neurodevelopmental diseases are complex patients due to the multiple disabilities they present, such as disorders associated with development, movement, muscle tone and posture that limit activity, as well as swallowing disorders, mental, sensory, cognitive, communication, behavioral, or musculoskeletal deformities, among others. All these factors require specialized treatment in case of hospitalization or complementary diagnostic tests.
The agreement establishes a cooperation framework between the Rehabilitation Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and the Aspace Catalunya Foundation with the aim of sharing resources, knowledge and experiences to offer continuity of care and specialized and quality care to people with cerebral palsy, as well as promoting research and specialized training in this field.
Within the agreed actions, the coordination between the Aspace Catalunya Foundation and the Child Rehabilitation, Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida Unit of Vall d'Hebron stands out, in the outpatient community approach in the case of patients with neurodevelopmental pathologies, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities.

This alliance will allow the creation of a referral circuit aimed at neuropsychological evaluations for patients who need it; as well as the referral to Aspace of patients from the Rehabilitation Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital for follow-up and neuropsychological treatment.
